This Oscar nominated musical was the first to be filmed in the three-strip Technicolor process and stars London and Broadway musical-comedy star Charles Collins as Jonathan Pride, a timid dance instructor living in 1820 Boston. While traveling aboard ship to visit relatives, Pride is shanghaied by pirates and forced to work as their galley boy. The pirate vessel eventually arrives at the town of Las Palomas and Jonathan, disguised in buccaneer's garb, leaves the ship unnoticed. Mistaken by the townspeople as the pirate captain, Pride is involved in a series of humorous escapades and romances the mayor's daughter. The arrival of a squad of soldiers changes things for Pride and the townspeople. This film also features an early screen appearance by a young Rita Hayworth as a member of the Royal Cansino Dancers.
